Title: How Celebrity Dermatologist Dr. Lancer Found His Calling
Dr. Harold Lancer founded his Beverly Hills solo practice in 1983, and since then has grown Lancer Dermatology into a thriving practice, with a global patient base of over 30,000 patients. Known as “the dermatologist of the stars,” celebrities including Victoria Beckham, Kim Kardashian and Ryan Seacrest trust Dr. Lancer with their skin, and we can see why: these celebrities seem to never age and have amazing skin. While Dr. Lancer and his namesake practice and product line, Lancer Skincare, offer the most up-to-date medical, surgical, and cosmetic care, Dr. Lancer’s interest in dermatology began with his personal experience and simple home remedies
When Dr. Lancer was seven years old, he was playing catch with his brother in the unheated basement of his family’s farmhouse. As he ran backwards to catch the ball, Dr. Lancer fell into a vat of steaming water. The scalding water burned about 10% of his body—the damage would have been more extensive had he not been wearing a snowsuit.
There was no hospital nearby, much less a burn unit or dermatologist to speak of. So Dr. Lancer’s mother did what she knew and turned to home remedies to treat the burns, slathering the raw skin with a poultice of egg yolks, vegetable shortening, baking soda, and water until the local doctor arrived. Dr. Jones, the local family practitioner, cleaned the wounds and applied Vaseline to the burns every day until they healed.
In those moments of watching Dr. Jones work with next-to-nothing and his mother creating her own remedies, Dr. Lancer’s interest in skin’s natural healing process began. While the days of experimenting in his kitchen and testing body lotions on his sister are long gone, Dr. Lancer has been able to apply the science he has learned regarding skin’s natural regenerative process to his skincare products.
The basis for Dr. Lancer’s skin care philosophy is known worldwide as “The Lancer Method.” This 3-step skincare routine of Polish, Cleanse, and Nourish focuses on skin’s natural processes in order to help skin “act younger,” which in turn makes it look younger and healthier. The first step is The Method: Polish which sweeps dead skin cells away, allowing the second step The Method: Cleanse to clean any remaining exfoliation and surface debris away, and is followed by a boost of antioxidants from The Method: Nourish moisturizer.
In 2012, The Lancer Method was featured as one of Oprah’s Favorite Things and was also gifted on Ellen DeGeneres’ “The Ellen Show.” Today it continues to be not only a celebrity and patient must-have, but also media favorites as it is daily mentioned in press and social media.
